2024年NDT公演|ポストパフォーマンストーク(2024年7月13日) 公開
Every time NDT 2 hits our stages, the usual superlatives fall flat in speechless admiration at 16 dancers,
who can handle anything the top-ranking choreographers care to task them with.

“NDT 2 is a distinct phenomenon, and phenomenal”

NDT 2 is a company of exceptional young dancers possessing extraordinary physicality. Their astonishing physical abilities and expressive power are unleashed through collaborations with cutting-edge choreographers who are pioneering the forefront of performing arts.
Curated by Aichi Prefectural Art Theatre and Dance Base Yokohama, this performance features three unique works characterized by diverse bodily languages and original artistic visions, all vividly embodying strong concepts that reflect contemporary society.
Making his first full-scale introduction in Japan, Marcos Morau presents a visually overwhelming and energetic approach to the body. Botis Seva boldly transforms the dynamism of hip-hop into a theatrical piece, expanding the possibilities of dance. Alexander Ekman, who enjoys great popularity in Japan as well, engages the audience with his unique and sophisticated choreography.
Please experience the inspiration born from these stimulating and sensory-rich dance performances at the theatre.
Created by Morau, who draws from a wide background in photography, choreography, and theater, this work can be seen as a ritual celebrating life that continues from the past to the present. With powerful vocals such as Bulgarian folk songs, rhythmic bells and drums, and traditional costumes and makeup evoking strong folk elements, it also features energetic group dances and stunning stage lighting that vividly capture the spirit of contemporary life.
Choreographer and stage director Marcos Morau (Spain, 1982) is trained in photography, movement, and theatre. He has worked with La Veronal for more than ten years now, as director, choreographer and designer of sets, costumes, and lighting. In addition, he has been a guest artist at companies and theatres around the world, always carefully balancing performing arts and dance. Morau was the youngest National Dance Prize winner in Spain and his creations have been awarded with numerous prizes, both at home and abroad. He is an associate artist at the Staatsballett in Berlin, where he will annually premiere a new creation in one of the largest companies in Europe.

Created by Ekman, a former NDT 2 dancer known for his originality, this piece begins with the idea of “harmony” and explores our place in society and the environment through probing questions. Set to jazz standards such as “Take Five,” it delivers a surprising and ambitious performance through distinctive movement and playful direction.
After a dance career with Royal Swedish Ballet, Cullberg Ballet and NDT 2, Alexander Ekman (Sweden, 1984) decided to solely focus on choreography. During the annual NDT’s Switch he was noticed for his talent and individual and original style. Ekman created quite some works for the company: for NDT 2 he created Flockwork (2006), the international hit Cacti (2010, nominated for the VSCD Zwaan Award 2010), Left Right Left Right (2012), Maybe Two (2013) FIT (2018) and Four Relations (2020), and for NDT 1, Definitely Two (2013). Ekman often composes music and develops decor for his own pieces. Ekman works worldwide with companies such as Cullberg Ballet, Compañia Nacional de Danza Goteborg Ballet, Iceland Dance Company, Bern Ballet, Cedar Lake Contemporary Dance, Ballet de l’Opéra du Rhin, Royal Swedish Ballet and the Norwegian National Ballet. In 2010 he created La La Land with former NDT dancer and choreographer Medhi Walerski for Göteborg Ballet. Ekman also creates for festivals such as the French Europa Danse and the Athens International Dance Festival.

Created by Botis Seva, a choreographer who transcends genres such as hip-hop, physical theatre, and contemporary dance, this piece is a deeply personal reflection on the pressures of modern life — from information overload to societal expectations. It carries a message to those facing daily struggles: never forget your strength and the support around you.
Started working as a choreographer at the age of 17, he has been expanding his field to hip-hop, physical theater, and contemporary dance. His own unique path is not bound by existing frameworks. He has received Laurence Olivier Award for Best New Dance Production (2007) and Chanel Next Prize (2009). This work depicts the pressures of today's world of information and criticism, and the personal struggles on external evaluations and expectations. It is a message to those who fight daily to remember their own strength and the support they have around them.

Today, NDT 2 is a company that is barely secondary to the main company. Not only do the dancers - all between 18 and 23 years old - become acquainted with repertoire, but also the risk that NDT 2 takes by inviting new names, makes the group as exciting as it is electrifying.
